A tragic incident has unfolded in Shiwang'andu, Muchinga Province, where an unidentified man lost his life and another individual sustained injuries during illegal gold mining activities. The accident occurred on Friday around 16:00 at the Chipindo gold mine, located within Chief Mukwikile’s chiefdom.
The survivor, 23-year-old Felix Mulenga from Mpika district, was rescued by fellow miners and urgently transported to Mpika Urban Clinic. Sadly, the deceased was pronounced dead upon arrival at the clinic, while Mulenga, who suffered bruises to his neck, lips, and eyelids, is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to Police Commanding Officer Paul Achinme, both men were engaged in the illicit mining operation when a sudden collapse of sand buried them. The body of the deceased has been placed in the mortuary, awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
